GREAT THINGS TO DO IN TUCSON.

#17. Astronomy and Dark Skies – Gerard Kuiper recognized the value of Tucson’s dark skies, clean air, and high peaks and in 1960 he started the Lunar and Planetary Lab at the University of Arizona.  This immediately attracted the best and brightest scientists from across the country, making Tucson a mecca for astronomers. Local ordinances help lower light pollution, allowing nearby observatories to search the night skies.

#18.  The Local Music Scene – Tucson has become a cradle of music fusion generating Latin, funk, country, Waila,  and ranchera sounds that are bubbling and brewing to make the sounds that are Tucson’s own. In the 1970s, Linda Ronstadt emerged as an international star. Today groups like Calexico, Ryanhood, and Mariachi Cobre have their roots in our community.
